We have a fairly new resident near our front door who is just a total sweetie. His name could be Tim or it could be Fred. It really depends on whether he’s a toad or a frog. I have an inkling he’s a toad, so for ease of writing this post we’ll name him Timmy Toad.
How cute is he! I think I may be inconsolable if Bess, my precious little Miss Woodle, gets a sight of him. Mind you, all credit to Timmy, he’s survived here for a month and she’s not spotted him yet so perhaps he’s a pretty sharp toad. Bess is currently chomping on a treat so that should keep her busy for a while. Hop away Timmy, hop away while you can!

I’m all for Tim – and he looks like a toad. We use to have plenty and with that came plenty snakes too. Redlips loved toad for dinner so we had them visit too. The croaking all summers nights was music to my ears. We too had a few take refuge in our home – one in particular ‘lived’ in the bathroom so at night when going to the loo in the dark – you had to be cautious not to step on him. What pretty patterns on Tim, is he still around?
I’m late replying to this, sorry! He disappeared pretty soon after I took this photo of him. I love croaking frogs, how lovely to hear them on summers evenings! I’m glad he was a toad, Tim suits him perfectly
He’s so cute! He needs a little house!
Hahaha what a great idea, I could make sure that he is kept safe and warm then!
I love his color – the ones that show up in my yard are much less exciting!
I agree, he’s just gorgeous! I’ve never seen one like him before, he must like it here though as he seems to have set up residence! It’s so lovely to discover any new wildlife in the garden
Do you have a pond that attracted him? We’ve had a few toads make an appearance in our yard, but I don’t have a water source for them to live in (still working on that pond garden!) I always thought they needed water, at least to be born in!
We don’t have a pond but there is a small stream about 150m from our house. I must admit that most of the frogs and toads that we’ve seen are nearer the bottom end of the garden so that would make sense. I suspect that a water source would be vital to attract them in the first place, I know that when we lived in the UK we introduced a pond to our garden in the suburbs and we definitely had frogs there in no time at all. I miss that pond garden, good luck with yours!
I think he’s a Tim regardless
Hahaha, I agree!
Are those toads poisonous? We have a terrible immigrant toad over here called a cane toad and a dog or cat or in fact any animal can die if they mess with them as they squirt out a poison venom
Eugh, that sounds like a nasty thing to have around. A fellow blogger has pointed out to me that it’s actually a European Green Toad and it isn’t dangerous, luckily for our dogs. I don’t think there are any poisonous frogs or toads here. Australia sounds like a dodgy place to live with all those deadly snakes and spiders and toads!
Gah, did that comment get through or not? Probably not, because there was a link in it. It’s a Tim, a European Green Toad (Bufo viridis).
Many thanks for that, I’ve just found the info on him, it’s always good to know exactly what is wandering around your garden and property. Tim he is then! He’s a lovely thing, obviously I prefer it when he’s sitting still. When he jumps so do I!

I once had a dog who bit a toad/frog while we were camped on the Colorado River. That dog spit for the next five hours. I have never seen a dog spit before this. I would caution Bess as I heard they taste really, really bad! lol
Awww poor doggy. Thanks for the warning, she makes enough odd noises without spitting too! Thankfully she seems to stay away from the front steps at night, preferring to sit towards the middle of the garden so with any luck she’ll avoid him completely and he’s hop off on his merry way eventually. Fingers crossed anyway
I guess a hyphenation wouldn’t work for his name? Frim?
Thats better than “Tred” – which would be bad karma. He’s pretty darn cute!
I love it, poor toady!
Hilarious! Tred, maybe not soo good for a frog!
Hahaha!
