These gorgeous swallows made an appearance today, aren’t they just adorable!
The cheeky one in the middle is clearly the boldest of the lot and has one serious hair-do! (You may want to click the photos to view them larger as the photo quality isn’t great).
We were honoured to have mum and dad build their nest right next to our front door, it’s considered very lucky here to have swallows build a home on your home. These are the same pair who abandoned their eggs earlier this year after realising that the nest they had adopted wasn’t accessible to them all day so we’re so chuffed that they got it right second time around.

Thanks for following my blog, I like nature, animals and having fun like you. You follow pommepal’s blog, we travel together so you know quiet a bit about me.
Nature is just so amazing, I love the big outdoors. Continue to enjoy your adventure, it looks wonderful!
Thank you, we alwas try and it is not hard because it is wonderful.
I adore tree swallows and had a pair nest here last year in a bluebird box. How elegant and what beautiful flyers! Enjoy your season!
We didn’t have swallows, but one year we did have doves nesting above our front door behind a brass eagle we had hanging there.
I have a photograph of baby swallows that is almost identical. Also taken when moving from city to farm life. Maybe I will have to post it on my blog sometime, so that you can see it
Yes, please do, I’d love to see it.
Reminds me of my grans house, she always had Swollows nesting in the corners of her patio when they migrate south, so south, I’m talking the warm coastline of South Africa. It is beautiful to watch these huge flocks. Apparently they mate for life and return to their same nest annually, this my gran told me and I always took her words as true. She mentioned too the sign of good luck they are. Mostly, it’s the joy of watching them over the months nesting. Your very own NatGeo going on there
Thanks for sharing, please keep us updated., really enjoy reading your posts. Hugs.
Thank you so much. We’re having so much fun watching the swallows, they’re delightful! I too had heard that they mate for life so it will be lovely to see if they return next year. We feel very lucky indeed to have them here and there are lots of photos being taken at regular intervals, as you say, our own NatGeo moment!
These pictures are so sweet!
I had two birds build a nest in the middle of my fuchsia. They laid four eggs in it, but since my fuchsia is blooming, I had to decide whether to cater to the fuchsia or the birds. I tried to do both but the birds decided that wasn’t good enough and bandoned the nest and eggs. I kept them, though.
It really amazes me where some birds decide to make their nests, often they just don’t get it right. I’m still surprised that the swallows made their nest at our doorway, we’re in and out the house all the time along with the 3 dogs, if I was a swallow I’d certainly want to live in a quieter neighbourhood!
Their antics are going to keep you well entertained!
There will be a lot of ducking and diving – and that’ll just be us!
Back in Russia Swallows used to be a common thing – they’d have nests made right in the corners of our windows. I’ve never seen this birds ever since I’ve moved to New York.
They’re such lovely birds, I love the way they seem to have long conversations with each other, like people in a bar. I’m so pleased that this year they have decided to nest at our home, we look forward to the swallows arrival every year. It’s sad that you don’t see them in New York.
We used to predict rain by how low those adorable, sharp tailed birds were flying – when they fly near the soil – it’s gonna be rain soon.
Wow, I didn’t know that! Something for me to observe from now on
By all means, it works:).
